Your Goals and Dreams !

“Where Do You Want to Take Your Business?”

I always start every business meeting with a familiar question: ”tell me your dreams…”  The prospect or client looks at me like I am crazy–and it’s quite possible I am.

But the truth is, without a dream, you wouldn’t have become an entrepreneur.  A dream to be the maker of your own destiny, to be paid a salary commensurate to your work, to work on your own terms, to create something beautiful–we all have our reasons.  It is our dreams that fuel our businesses and your dreams that inspire us to do what we do.

DScribed always asks: “where do you want to take your business?” It articulates everything we are…because we believe EVERY business goal, every personal dream, every aspiration is achievable IF you have the right strategy.  So, tell us your dreams, even if it seems crazy–hey, just a short time ago we were called crazy–crazy for leaving well-paying, secure jobs to follow our dream of owning our own business–and here we are!

So, this is for all us dreamers!  Inspire us, inspire yourselves!

What are my goals and dreams? That is a great question. I am elated in the fact that someone actually asked me what are my goals and dreams, instead of asking me the infamous questions of, “Where do you see yourself in five to ten years?” The only way to even dream of doing anything within the next five years, or even the next five minutes is to ask myself what my dreams and goals are, and how my dreams will define me as a person. So here goes, my dreams are to reach my community and even the globe through creative writing, media, and marketing all combined in one! Specifically, I want to explore the untapped source of African music, help market it, and bring it to a more mainstream level. Just as Reggae reached the mainstream level, I believe and know that African music has the awesome potential. I plan on using my diverse cultural background, my creative writing, and my marketing training to help me achieve these goals. I just have a passion for Africa! In the near future, I would like to be able to find talent who perform African Hip-Hop, Jazz, etc, so that I can help them reach their goals and in turn reach mine. There are many talented people out there who just need to be steered in the right direction. I know that through perseverance and direction, my dreams will be accomplished.

Do I have dreams? Of course I do! I confess, I’m a dreamer. But not in the REM sense. My dreams aren’t just images I see while I sleep. They are alive and well, thriving in my mind as I strive to reach and make them a reality. What are my dreams, you ask? Well, they range, from graduating college in 31/2 years to becoming a successful writer. Some will take longer than others, I realize and accept this. But as long as I continue to work towards my dreams’ direction, I am going the right way.

I have lots of dreams. Most of them involve nonsense and the occasional bad dream of falling falling falling until I wake up right before I hit the ground. So I made it a choice not to dream about my future because most of the time dreams are just made up from the imagination and probaly can’t be reached. Goals are a different story! Goals are worked for and are reached by will and hardwork! I have goals for everyday. So one of my goals is to one day own a busniess. Sounds cliche but I don’t care. I want to open when I want and close when I want. Is that wrong? Didn’t think so!! I work hard and everything I have is a goal that I used to have. My car was a goal. My college education was a goal. All have been obtained by hardwork and willpower. Now K. Michael Incorporated will be my goal. How you like me now!!! Sounds boring and a lot of work but what isn’t?! But of course doing a movie love scene with Selma Hayek isn’t bad either but who has time for acting lessons!

My goals and dreams, surprisingly I haven’t thought about it in detail. As of right now I’m not really sure where I’m headed. I have a lot of interests people and communication, writing, computers and randomly, acting. I don’t really have a future planned out for myself, I think I just focus on whatever makes me happy and hopefully at the same time can provide for a future. I’m so excited to be graduating soon and as corny as it sounds I think I’m just going to follow my heart and see where that takes me. Of course I hope to be successful but in the long term, I just see myself as happy.

My goals and dreams are quite simple, I would one day like to be successful. However, I am not completely sure what the definition of being “successful” truly is. Success can be defined in so many countless ways. Do i want a good career, yes, do i want to one day have a family, yes absolutely. Would I like to start up my own company, possibly, or would I like to work for another company? It does not yet seem clear as to what direction I want my future to go. Life offers so many options and new ones arise every moment. I believe that if I put in a good amount of work and learn as much as humanly possible I will one day succeed in whatever it is that I want to do. I was always told that you can never come close to learning too much so it is best to explore. It is indeed comforting to know that I still have two years of college ahead of me where some unresolved questions will have time to be answered. As long as I am happy with my life, years from now, I will then consider my goal of being “successful” conquered.

    “Tell me your dreams…”
When I was younger I dreamed of being an author. Even before I was able to write and type, I would dictate stories to my mom who would sit at the computer and type them up. Much of the time I wouldn’t finish a story because I would lose interest (I admit this is a very bad quality, especially for an aspiring writer). When I entered high school, one of my teachers inspired me to start writing poetry, which allowed me to tell a story without getting bored of the topic.
Now my dreams are a little bit different, I want to love my job, and make enough money to live comfortably on, I want to be able to wake up every day and be content and excited about my life. Eventually I hope to retire young and open my own business, I’m thinking: a restaurant (I’d probably have to learn to cook first…?). I hope that in thirty or forty years I will be sitting in a business meeting in this office and someone will ask me to tell them my dreams, and although right now I still do not know exactly what I want, by then I might, maybe.

My goals and dreams are actually quite simple, all I want to do is to enjoy whatever it is I’m doing. Some people say they may just want to be successful and don’t care what they’re doing. I feel that if you are doing something you love to do and enjoy doing you will be successful no matter what. My career goals are important to me but I’ve seen peoples lives taken over by their career goals and I believe that peoples life goals are way more important and can be crushed by your career goals. It just doesn’t make sense to me be successful but not be happy with your life and oftentimes people equate success with money but money can can only make you so happy in my opinion. So basically my goals and dreams are to just enjoy my life and have a smile on my face no matter what it is doing.

Like the most recent post, my true dream is to just be happy with whatever I end up doing in life. Of course I want to be successful, live in a nice house, and make a lot of money, but I feel like all of that is worthless if you are unhappy. I have several other “secondary” dreams that have to do with things such as employment and schooling. I hope to continue to excel in college and possibly attend law school when I graduate. I also dream to spend some significant time abroad in the near future. As much as I love America, I think studying abroad somewhere in Europe would give me unparalleled life experience. Of course, I’m also still (barely) holding on to my childhood dream to play baseball for the New York Mets.

My ultimate goal is to reach my full potential, whether that be reporting, fiction writing, or something else altogether. My biggest motivation each day is to work harder and to be better than the sloppy, misinformed writing I see in various publications. I’ve never thought as a dream as a wild, hopeful thing, but rather something that is truly worth striving for every day and that you can will yourself to achieve. I know that if I can honestly tell myself today that I worked my hardest and performed better than previous days, then I am living the dream. Some people talk about what what it means to be happy, but I know for me that happiness is finding that real passion and working for it.

My ultimate goal in life is to find a career in which I don’t work a day in my life. I desire a career in which I can honestly say I would come to work everyday whether or not I was getting paid to be there. I hope to incorporate my passion for travel, and my eagerness to gain continuous education within a career filled with ever changing challenges and responsibilities. As a person with multidisciplinary interests I easily adapt to new environments and enjoy learning from others experiences. My varying interests may be seen within my choices in education thus far. I am a pursuing a dual degree in the fields of International Business and Public Relations while actively taking classes within the science field in preparation for my future pursuit of a Masters in Nutrition and MBA in International Relations post undergraduate graduation.I see myself as a driven hardworking individual who often seeks the route others may deem impossible to accomplish.

I have always been big on planning. I like to know exactly what I’ll be doing two weeks from now-perhaps even two months from now. So up until about last year, I knew exactly where my like was headed in the coming years. But in the course of my college studies, I’ve come to realize all of the paths my life could take. Realizing that I couldn’t plan my future as meticulously as I used to was a bit jarring at first, but I now understand that it’s more important to enjoy life now, rather than to constantly worry if my future is secure. I have also accepted that I’m not the only person out there who isn’t 100% sure what they will be doing in the distant future. My ultimate goal is to be happy with whatever career I choose, no matter how far it deviates from my original life plan. As my grandmother constantly reminds me, “Find something you love to do, and you’ll never work a day in your life.”

If dreams could come true, I would like to work for an ad agency in Manhattan on ad campaigns and one day become an art director in charge of those ad campaigns. It may take a while but I believe I will accomplish this goal. We can all dream but for those dreams to come true, we need to pursue them to the fullest extent. They won’t come true on their own. So if we are going to dream, makes those dreams come true by pursuing them. As long as you pursue your dream there is a chance it will come true. The only way my dream is going to come true is if I pursue the career I want to conquer. But for now it’s just a dream and hopefully one day that dream will come true. Also my dream would be to do one project at a time, but we all know you need to juggle a couple of projects at a time, but this is a dream of mine. Another dream would be to not actually become famous. I would just like to work peacefully and not have all the pressure that comes with being famous. I would just like to be comfortable with my career, and have fun with it. Having a comfortable career would make it easier to work on projects and work with clients. Another of my dreams is to have a good relationship with clients and for everything to go smoothly. We know these are just dreams, but sometimes dreams do come true.

When asked “tell me your dreams and goals,” I could not help but think of the John Lennon song “Imagine.” In this song there is the lyric that says “You may say I’m a dreamer but I’m not the only one.” To be honest, I do not have any particular goals. The only dream I have is to achieve a successful and happy future, and I believe “I’m not the only one.” I simply want to graduate college, obtain a flourishing job and be content with however my future turns out.
My dream is quite general. I do not have aspirations to find a job with an exact company and make a certain amount of money. Nor do I want to marry a precise type of person, live in a definite area and have a pre-planned amount of children. I am not dreaming of the “big house with the white picket fence.” All I am wishing for is happiness. Some people may view my lack of clearly defined goals as lazy or apathetic, but I consider it optimistic. I am hopeful that I will do well in a Public Relations related career that I love. I do not want anything else other than to be happy. This is my one overall dream, and I think it is definitely something I can reach.
